Memorial Day, 2024

This post isn’t about Memorial Day as Memorial Day, either as the current iteration of Decoration Day (which I remember as taking place on May 30th) to honor those who fell in the American Civil War and subsequent wars, or about Memorial Day as a Federal long-weekend holiday. There’s certainly lots to say about the first, and in time I may well have plenty to say, but not today. And regarding the long-weekend holiday, I was a self-employed consultant for so long that I used to lost track of those Mondays off (the self-employed don’t really get days off) and was always suggesting that we next meet on such-and-such a date to the shock and amusement of the Feds that I worked with, “But that’s such-and-such a Day!”

No, today’s post is just cleaning-out the occasional test postings that I’ve thrown up here on the Most Current Iteration of the Consultingsmiths site/blog and once again, starting over. It occurred to me to spend a bit of this morning cleaning-up the process I’ve been using to export the Emacs org-mode file that I’ve been using to collect the last eight or so years of blog posts and miscellaneous quotes into a proper and readable HTML file. That’s still in process, but while paging through that 6,456 line file, and pondering all the different hosts and domain names I’ve used since I first started putting my own websites up on the Internet, it seemed like there are more than a few pages that really should be kept here on the venerable consultingsmiths.com.

So this is a replacement for the three or four very brief “Hello World” pages that were part of the process of getting this host and server working. It’s working now, seems stable, so let’s see what happens now.
